Kick Off - Athena Hollins for State House 66B

As you may know, I’ve decided to run for the Minnesota State House of Representatives for District 66B. Six years ago, my husband, David, and I made our home in Payne-Phalen because we love St. Paul and the diversity of our neighborhood. Fast forward a few years, and I was invited to get involved with the Payne-Phalen Community Council. I decided to join because I wanted to do my part to make my neighborhood more livable for my kids. I’m now in my second term as president of the Council. During this time, I’ve heard too many stories from too many neighbors about how the rising cost of healthcare, childcare, and housing have made them make choices that no one should be forced to make. I’m running because we need an inclusive, progressive problem solver to make those issues top priorities at the Capitol.

Over the last few months, I’ve talked to community leaders, policy experts, launched our campaign website (athenahollins.com), started fundraising, and earned the endorsements of Ramsey County Commissioners Jim McDonough and Trista Matascastillo. One thing I haven’t done yet is to host an event for everyone supporting me to come together, celebrate, and organize. I intend to fix that on August 15th.

For those of you that have already helped out in some way, whether it has been offering words of encouragement, volunteering your time and expertise, or making a financial contribution, I am incredibly grateful. I hope you’ll attend to continue your support. For those of you that are just hearing about my campaign, I hope you’ll come meet me, meet my supporters, and join the fight for affordable healthcare, childcare that doesn’t break the bank, and the ability for all Minnesotans to have a place to call home.
